Child and Youth
The Child Health Service provides a range of free community health and support services throughout the greater Brisbane metropolitan area for families with children up to eight years of age. We provide a variety of services eg. Drop-in clinics, growth and development checks in the early years, information to help parents support their child to thrive, groups and counselling for parents. ***Please note opening hours listed are for booking appointments with our booking office. Drop-in clinics provide the opportunity for families to have a brief consultation with a child health nurse for any general parenting concerns. Drop-in clinics are offered between birth & 5 years. • No appointment required. • If families require additional support (e.g. intensive feeding support) the nurse will schedule an individual follow-up, booked appointment, for a more comprehensive assessment. • Interpreter services can be arranged. • Closed on public holidays. Please note there may be a wait during busy times. For details of clinic locations, days and open times please click website link below. An Infant Feeding and Parent Support Program is available at select locations for parents/carers with infants 0 to 6 months old with feeding problems and associated challenges. New parent group provides an opportunity to meet other new parents/carers while learning about infant health and development needs in the first 3 months. Parenting seminars are available for 4 to 6 months old and 10 to 12 months old. Topics include parent-infant relationships; development, feeding & nutrition; and safety and well-being. The Triple P Group Program is available for parents/carers of children 2 to 8 years old and provides support for general parenting concerns and common behavioural problems. Postnatal Wellbeing and Circle of Security (COS) group programs are also available. Teams of child health nurses and early intervention clinicians (either social workers or psychologists) are available. Advanced health workers are available to support families of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background. Free interpreter services available on request.
