Public Health Service, Population Health
The Unit delivers communicable disease control, environmental health compliance services and advice, immunisation coordination and epidemiology programs and services which protect and promote the health of the Gold Coast population.
This includes:
- COMMUNICABLE DISEASE. Preventing disease spreading from person to person, from animals to people (zoonotic diseases) and from insects to people (vector borne diseases).
- ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH. Hazards include physical, chemical, biological and social hazards that affect human health which may be naturally occurring or a result of human activity. Includes dispersal of asbestos fibres, chemical spray drift, adverse impacts on air quality, pest management activity and contaminated drinking or recreational waters.
- FOOD SAFETY STANDARDS. Monitoring and enforcing the Food Act 2006 to ensure food businesses comply with Queensland's food safety laws.
- IMMUNISATION. Maintaining and enhancing vaccinations rates to minimise the incidence of major vaccine preventable disease (school based and adult).
- EPIDEMIOLOGY. Services cover the causes, distribution and control of disease across populations.
- INCIDENT RESPONSE. Contributing to a multi-agency response during major public health incidents and events.
