Advocacy Service
TASC Disability Advocates support justice, equity and fair treatment for people with a disability and for people experiencing mental health challenges. Our team speaks, writes and acts for individuals to ensure their needs are met and their rights are upheld in the wider community. We support people to advocate for themselves to the greatest extent possible. People with disability or mental illness, their families and carers can contact a TASC Disability Advocate with any concerns about how an individual is being treated. We support people throughout Toowoomba, Ipswich, Wide Bay and rural and regional areas in South West Queensland. If you would like an in-person appointment, we have advocates to assist at our Toowoomba, Ipswich, Hervey Bay, Bundaberg and Gympie offices. For other locations we offer phone and video appointments. ......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... TASC’s Mental Health advocates assist people with a mental health condition to navigate the systems they rely on and to help them know and enforce their rights. Our advocates work with people who need one-to-one advocacy support and work with them in partnership to address instances of discrimination, abuse or neglect. This service is funded to help people who have a mental health condition and live or access services in the Darling Downs Health Service area. It is available to inpatients, outpatients or community members. If you live with mental illness and need help understanding or standing up for your rights, but do not fall under these requirements TASC may still be able to help through our disability advocacy service which also encompasses people living with mental health conditions – please contact us to find out. If we are unable to help we will endeavour to refer you to a service who can.
