Child and Youth Forensic Mental Health Service - Kirwan
Also known as CYFMHS
Open Until 4:30PM
Child and Youth, Mental Health
This service is designed to better meet the mental health needs of young people who are involved with the Juvenile Justice System. The catchment area is from Mackay north to the Cape and west to Mt Isa. The Team is based in Townsville but also has mental health workers on site in the Cairns and Mackay districts.
As the Team has a Zonal responsibility members are available to travel to rural and remote areas to provide a flexible mode of service delivery.
We offer a range of services to the broader community with regard to young people who are involved with the Juvenile Justice System or who are 'at risk' of such involvement.
These services are available to agencies, organisations, families and young people and include:
Level 1 advice information and training on forensic mental health issues.
Level 2 joint assessment, review of management plans and brief interventions.
Level 3 Co-case management of patients who are engaged with district mental health services.
We also have primary responsibility for the provision of mental health and alcohol and other drugs services to the residents of Cleveland Youth Detention Centre. This is done via onsite staff.
