The Child Health Service provides a range of community health and support services for children and their parents/carers to give every child the best possible start in life. Services offered to parents of children from birth to 8 years throughout the greater Brisbane metropolitan area include health surveillance and screening, growth and development checks, feeding support and nutritional information, parenting support and counselling to enhance parenting. Services provided by Child Health Nurses and Early Intervention Clinicians (either Social Workers or Psychologists). Advanced Health Workers are available to support families of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background. Free interpreter services available on request. Parenting support and early feeding drop-in clinics: supporting parents/carers in the first 12 weeks. Brief consultations available at select locations - Monday to Friday 9am-12pm. No appointment required. https://www.childrens.health.qld.gov.au/wp-content/uploads/PDF/factsheets/chs-early-feeding-support-clinics.pdf. Self-weigh facilities available. Infant Feeding and Parent Support Program is available at select locations for parents/carers with infants birth to 6 months of age with feeding issues and associated challenges. Prior consultation with a Child Health Nurse is required. New parent group provides an opportunity to meet other new parents/carers while learning about infant health and development needs in the first 3 months. Four sessions conducted over four weeks. Parenting Seminars are available at key ages of 4-6 months and 10-12 months. Topics include: parent-infant relationships, development, feeding and nutrition, child safety and wellbeing. Triple P Group Program is available for parents/carers of children 2-8 years: provides support for general parenting concerns and common behavioural issues. Postnatal Wellbeing and Circle of Security (COS) group programs available. Referral required.
