Legal service
LawRight is a community legal centre and the leading facilitator of pro bono legal services in Queensland. Our services are embedded at 22 locations, partnering with courts and tribunals, community and health services to increase access to justice and improve the health, income and housing of vulnerable Queenslanders.
Community and Health Justice Partnerships (CHJP): Staff and pro bono lawyers are embedded on-site and collaborate with health and community workers at 15 locations to address the unrecognised multiple legal problems of clients including people experiencing domestic and sexual violence, mental illness or homelessness, refugees and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Key areas of law include housing, consumer and fines debts and appropriate access to government services.
Court and Tribunal Services (CTS): Six Brisbane registries host offices for LawRight and we deliver onsite and remote services across Queensland to help vulnerable people navigating civil court and tribunal proceedings. Our strategic partnerships with pro bono lawyers match the legal problem and capability of the individual, providing self-representation, mediation, and appearance services at the Queensland Supreme Court, District Court, Court of Appeal, Magistrates Court, Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Federal Court and Mental Health Review Tribunal.
Pro Bono Connect (PBC): Staff assess applications for civil law pro bono representation and refer them to firms and barristers, using either a public interest test for our members or a broader test on behalf of the QLS and BAQ referral schemes.
