Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health
Apunipima was established following a community leaders meeting at Pajinka Wilderness Lodge, near Injinoo (tip of Cape York) on the 14 September 1994. Apunipima Cape York Health Council is the first Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) covering Cape York. The Health Council is committed to working with the mainstream health system to coordinate improved health service delivery and coordination, and to address gaps in health care access and service delivery as prioritised by the communities that make up the membership. Apunipima is a member of the Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council and the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation. Apunipima is a multi-disciplinary health service resource for the communities and people of Cape York. This includes outreach and community based service providers. Its role is to be the lead agency representing a holistic approach to health issues.
