Legal service
The Dispute Resolution Centre - Cairns provides an alternative way of settling disputes before they get to court. This means savings in time, legal fees and court costs, not just for the individuals involved, but for the whole community. The mediation services are available to everyone in the community, whatever their education, income, ethnic origins or language ability. Disputes that the DRC has been involved with are: disputes in the workplace between colleagues, or between staff and management; disputes of a commercial or business nature; family conflicts involving separating couples, parents, children and other members of the family; complex multi-party disputes in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and other communities; assist with the resolution of large public-interest disputes; conduct facilitations for management committees, social clubs and other organisations; assist in the conduct of conferences, seminars and workshops; provide training in conflict management.
