The Queensland Tissue Bank (QTB) is part of the Organ and Tissue Donation Service (OTDS) which sits under Metro South Hospital and Health Service (MSHHS). The bank operates alongside DonateLife, providing services related to the consent, recovery, production, storage and distribution of tissue for transplant. The history of the QTB goes back over the last 30 years, with the establishment of the Queensland Eye Bank in 1986, and the Queensland Bone Bank in 1990. Licenced by the Therapeutic Goods Administration, for ocular, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and dermatological allograft, the QTB adheres to the Code of Good Manufacturing Practice, and operates on a cost-recovery basis out of a purpose built facility in Coopers Plains. As of 2021, the QTB is the largest integrated Tissue Bank in Australia.
