James Cook University Library is wheelchair accessible via a ramp to the right of the steps at the front entrance. Access to the first and second floors is via the lift situated opposite the rear stairs. General information and assistance are available at InfoHelp. Library staff will assist in locating information through the catalogue, Tropicat, or collecting material from the shelves. They will also provide assistance in using reference tools. Clients can arrange to have a librarian available to provide assistance with longer enquiries and specific subject searches. As advance notice is required, InfoHelp staff should be contacted for an appointment. Arrangements can be made for Library material to be photocopied. Designated parking is available in the car park at the rear of the Library building. Study carrels and large tables are wheelchair accessible. Ergonomic chairs are available upon request. An Oxford large print dictionary is shelved in the Reference Collection. Guide dogs are permitted in all areas of the Library. Wheelchair accessible internal telephones are located: on the ground floor opposite the Loans Desk, near the CD-ROM workstations on the first floor, outside the University Librarian's office on the second floor OSCAR: computerised print reading system and brailler; colour video magnification system; microfiche reader with enlarged magnification lens; magnification lens with light mounted on goose-neck stand; small hand-held magnification lens and reading stands.
