Key functions: Coordinate disease control initiatives - including surveillance, monitoring and managing disease outbreaks, epidemiological investigations and coordination of, and support for, immunisation programs. Developing, coordinating and support population-focused health promotion interventions for priority health issues of state and local significance - in particular chronic disease risk factor prevention, injury and skin cancer prevention, and mental health promotion. Monitoring and enforcing relevant public health legislation and/or policies - food safety and standards, regulated drugs and poisons, environmental toxicology and tobacco control. Undertaking health surveillance initiatives - the collation, analysis, monitoring and dissemination of information on health status and risk factor trends. Providing specialist public health advice and services to a range of other government agencies, local government and the community including leading, participating in, or advising on health risk and health impact assessments.
